Why Joining Opposition Party
I strongly believe that everyone can be actively involve and be more concern in Singapore's politics, especially the younger generation. Being the leaders for the next generation, we must contribute our best to build a democratically strong nation. My experience in volunteering in the meet-the-people session in Potong Pasir Constituency have let me know the residents in the town and had since built a friendly relationship with them. I also learned and discovered the life of the residents and served them faithfully. As a opposition party, we must not oppose for the sake of opposing. We are here to show the ruling party the right of the people of Singapore, so the ruling party will not have monopoly ideas that they can do what they want. We are here to enable you to exercise the right to vote and to enable you to bring your voice and your alternative views in the parliament by exercising democracy in Singapore. Therefore we need the support of the people in Singapore like you, because with you, we can make a difference and a better living for our family and our next generation to come. We believe that we do not need to some one great to serve the community. The only thing we need is the heart to serve, a 'never say die spirit' and willing to move a step forward.

He graduated with an Honours Bachelors Degree in 1998 from the National University of Singapore's Faculty of Law, and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor to the local Bar in 1999 where he started his career in litigation work.
Ti Lik's experience in legal work and in particular his exposure to commercial and criminal trials has given him an insight into the practical workings of the legal system. He feels that reforms are necessary to achieve a better balance between the citizen and the State.
In line with his philosophy below, he feels that there is no better route to make reforms other than via the political route and is glad to volunteer his legal expertise to Project Breakthrough

Members of WP, SPP team up for Breakthrough (Straits Times Feb 4, 2006)
Seven-member grouping set up to pool the resources of the two opposition parties for GE
By T. Rajan
SOME members of two opposition political parties have joined forces to set up a civil society project that aims to pool their parties' information and resources for the coming General Election (GE).
The team-up is between members of the Singapore People's Party and the Workers' Party, the two opposition parties with elected Members of Parliament: Mr Chiam See Tong (SPP) and Mr Low Thia Khiang (WP).
The seven-member grouping, called Project Breakthrough, hopes to be a bridge for the parties to tap on each other for help on say, Nomination Day.
'Even if we cannot use WP members as candidates in say, a GRC, they can help us as proposers and seconders if they stay in the ward that we are contesting,' said SPP assistant secretary-general Desmond Lim, one of the project's coordinators.
Its members told The Straits Times yesterday that they hope to register the grouping as a political non-governmental organisation soon.
Their ultimate goal is for their two parties to form an alliance.
'It is a long-term project but I hope this project will lead to a unification of the opposition,' said Mr Lim, who was on the five-man Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) team that unsuccessfully contested Jalan Besar GRC in the 2001 GE.
The SDA has four parties: SPP, National Solidarity Party, Singapore Justice Party and Singapore Malay National Organisation (PKMS).
The grouping has been sharing election strategies and holding talks on possible hot political issues, said Mr Lim, 38.
'The grouping will be a good framework for regular interaction,' said WP member Brandon Siow, 30, an account manager at Singapore Airlines Cargo and a former president of the National University of Singapore Students Union.
The other WP members in the grouping are businessman James Teo, 47; senior bank manager Eric Tan, 50; and business analyst Yaw Shin Leong, 29, who is the project's other coordinator.
SPP central executive committee member Elvin Ong, 27, and youth wing secretary Wilfred Leung, 30, have also joined the grouping.
Neither WP's chairman Sylvia Lim nor Mr Low could be reached for comment yesterday.
SPP chief Chiam See Tong, 71, said: 'It's a good sign as long as they are sincere in their desire to improve opposition unity, which in this case, they are.'

Project Breakthrough
A Multi-Partisan Political Civil Society Formation Group
Starting Somewhere ...
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Confucius (551-479 BC)
On the 3rd January 2006, Tuesday at 7.00pm. Seven Singaporean political opposition activists from two political parties met for discussions in their individual capacities.

The seven Singaporeans had a gathering of minds and shared a common vision for the cultivation of a democratic & robust political culture in Singapore.
Why Project Breakthrough?
The love for Singapore is the common bond between the seven political activists. Project Breakthrough seeks to educate, mobilize & reach out to fellow Singaporeans, so as to improve, develop and strengthen the democratic process here in Singapore.
Through our would-be Project Breakthrough programs, like-minded political activists, patriotic Singaporeans, concerned citizens can stay in touch and be mobilized for political action together with fellow political, civil, grassroots activists and Singaporeans at large. In addition, Project Breakthrough also aims to enhance communication lines between political opposition activists by staying connected through our joint activities.
What has been done thus far?
Project Breakthrough seeks to register a political civil society under the Singapore’s Registry of Society (ROS). To register the alumni under ROS, a minimum of 10 names are required. Upon the gathering of 10 - 15 names, an application will be submitted to ROS for the formation. Pending approval, the 10 - 15 should continue to serve as Project Breakthrough pro tem committee members till the society’s inaugural AGM.
What has been agreed upon?
To facilitate the above, 20 over possible society names have been put forth, for the purpose of fulfilling mandatory ROS requirements. However our 1st choice remains as: Project Breakthrough.
Coordinators:
Desmond Lim and Yaw Shin Leong are both nominated to be interim administrative coordinators
Next Meeting:
Next Project Breakthrough Formation Group meeting will be coordinated internally via electronic mails.
Blog:
During this interim, http://projectbreakthrough.blogspot.com will serve as a central information depository and communication tool between the political activists.
What’s next?
Are you a patriotic Singaporean? If yes, please step forward to be a volunteer of Project Breakthrough. Be part of this process! Together let's build the democratic foundation of Singapore’s future!
